Kings and Queens.
Of all the wines from Burgundy, Gevrey-Chambertin is the commune we seek out most often. Certainly Shell’s favourite, the wines are masculine, yet elegant. The region deserves the title ‘King of Burgundy’. The Gran Crus and Premier Cru’s are consistently some of the great Burgundy’s of the world. The is reason Tuesday’s are dedicated to Gevrey.
If I am pushed for my favourite commune, it would not be Gevrey. For me, the expression of Burgundy I most enjoy are the wines of Chambolle-Musigny. They are the feminine to the Gevrey masculine. Complex, elegant and nuanced, these are the wines I prefer to drink.
There will always be Gevrey Tuesday, but today, I tip my hat to the Queen of Burgundy, Chambolle-Musigny.

Not decanted.
100% Pinot Noir.
Medium ruby in the glass. The nose is fragrant, intense and complex. Black fruits dominate, with incredible floral aromas of roses and lavender. An entirely pretty nose, with only a hint of sweet mushrooms and vanilla spiced in the background. Pretty, certainly, but there is real depth and complexity. The palate offers medium-plus acid and medium tannins. A soft, textural mouthfeel that offers more blackberries and rich spices. It is elegant and balanced, with a lingering finish. At ten years old this wine is still very youthful. Probably reaching its peak in five to ten more years. Regardless, fantastic drinking right now.
