We didn’t dip our toe in the Piedmont pond, we leapt in, and splashed about. Maybe it was the likeness to the Pinot Noir grape and our love of Burgundy that tempted us? For me, it was Kerin O’Keefe telling the tale of Elio Alatre taking the chainsaw to his fathers old barrels in frustration. I love a well told story.
Nebbiolo is to Barolo what Pinot is to Burgundy and I guess you could say these Langhe wines are the Bourgogne of the Burgundy.
Deep purple in the glass. The nose is cherries and violets. Intense yet feminine. It teases at the edge of Barolo style, but just does not have the class. The palate is fruit forward, more cherries. The wine is well balanced, well structured. This wine is good drinking without being outstanding, and reasonable value for money.
I consider for a moment that I have judge this unfairly. Why even the comparison to Barolo?
