A fitting conclusion.

Wine 2 Review here – 2016 Farroria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Reserva Rancia
Wine 3 Review here – 2016 Torbreck RunRig
Wine 4 Review here – 2010 Château de Lafont
This wine came with a big reputation but my expectations were not as high as the Rancia. You have to wonder why? From one of the most respected producers in Chianti, Gran Selezione, it really should have been highly anticipated.
Once again, the details are hazy, I was well and truly drunk by this stage. In front of me, I had a glass of the RunRig, one of the Lafont and the Antinori. All three offered something unique and interesting as I rotated between the three.
The wine will need proper assessment at a later date, with time for real consideration it deserves. Suffice to say the Antinori was everything I hoped the Rancia would be, powerful, savory, and distinctly Chianti.
Decanted, but I am not sure for how long. I am not sure if I decanted this or staff. I was drunk.
The notes are hazy, I will give this wine the time it needs at another date and provide notes that are more fitting.
Medium garnet. On the nose, there are concentrated cherries that later opened up with perfumed flowers and fresh herbs. The fruit intensity does not overpower the floral elements, and there are savory elements of cigar sitting in the background. This is a powerful expression of Chianti. On the palate, it is textural, full-bodied, yet restrained. There is an elegance behind the fruit and it is in perfect balance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wine yet it deserves a sharp mind and serious consideration.
