Friendship and wine.
I trained with Kevin before I met him through wine. For a year or so we shared the same gym, said hello, and occasionally had a quick chat. As Kevin tells the story, apparently I was a rude prick and ignored his attempts at conversation. Sounds about right.
They call Kevin the Torbreck man around here. When we finally organised a date to catch up, he told me he would bring a bottle of Runrig. Before the Laird was released a few years ago, this was Torbreck’s flagship wine. Expensive, powerful, and classy Barossa Shiraz.
We had nothing to compare so we offered to bring two wines. Kevin sorted out the venue, a laid back wine bar with great stemware, decanters, and an endless supply of incredible food. It was a fantastic night. Great food, great company, and amazing wines.
We intended to share three bottles, each of use ended up opening our extra wines. I write this with a terrible hangover. Keeping with the theme I have noticed here, and confirming my lightweight drinking status, Keving opened another bottle after we left.
The tasting notes for each bottle will follow over the next few days. They will be as grainy as the images as I will be relying on memory.
Thank you to Kevin and Jenny for a fantastic evening, your generosity and friendship are what makes living here so special.
