Lazy Saturday afternoons.
Malaysia is hot. All the time. Eating and drinking outside can be a sweaty, uncomfortable affair. It wreaks havoc on wine. Both red and white warm up fast in the weather. Problems have solutions, ice buckets make a difference. It is worth it. The views we are afforded from our rooftop are stunning.
You do not want something heavy in this weather, too demanding on the palate. Champagne, Reisling and Semillon spring to mind. Rosé would be perfect as well. Difficult to manage with a wine fridge full of red.
We take the lightest red we have, place it in an ice bucket, drink as chilled as we can keep it. Saturday afternoon slides away with music, conversation and a perfectly chilled Rosso di Montalcino. I love this city, even if it slowly bakes me like an oven.
Not decanted and served at about 10°C.
100% Sangiovese.
Ruby red in the glass. It is hard to get much on the nose with the temperature so low. Mostly red fruits and some caramel and spiciness. The palate is refreshing due to the temperature. The alcohol is present, but not dominating. Medium acid which gives the wine a nice structure. For this occasion, the wine is perfect. You cannot rate a wine based on experience, but if you could, this would score very highly.
