Part 2 of the 2016 Melbourne throw back.
If the Moric Blaufränkisch was a a rarity, it is fair to say we were well and truly down the Burgundy rabbit hole.
These Bruno Clairs’ were imported by Bernie Smith at Two Ducks Fine Wines. Impressed with 1er Crus we grabbed a few bottles of the En la Rue de Vergy.
I had no idea how either of these wines would present.
Deep red with a slight tinge of orange on the edge. Still vibrant. Cherries and blackberries on the nose with plenty of forrest floor pushing through. The highlight is pretty flowers which is what lingers, balancing the funky earth tones. Structure and elegance on the palate. The fruit is there but this wine is about textures, balance and length. This wine punches well above Villages weight. If this were a blind tasting I would be leaning toward a 1er Cru. In fact, I am at a loss as to whether this is a Bourgogne, Villages or 1er Cru?
