The third wine of Sunday lunch.
The complete line up-
Following the Crianza was the Bordeaux.
This wine was from Tristan J. The man has an uncanny knack of randomly choosing wines that present well in the context of time and place, and drink remarkably.
The Bordeaux was my wine of the day.
Château de Lestiac is part of the conglomerate of Château’s under the Vignobles Gonfrier Bordeaux Group. I have no idea what this means relating to quality, it was simply the only place I could find de Lestiac listed.
The Estate is Right Bank, and the nose is Merlot dominate, but Cabernet Sauvignon sits nicely in the background. Black currants and dark fruits on the nose with subtle charcutière meats underpinning the fruit. There are more dark fruits on the palate, with hints of sweet spices. The strength of this wine lies in its balance and mouthfeel. The fruit is held together by well balanced acidity, the length is supported long, fine gripping tannins.
Great with the roast lamb. Very satisfying drinking.
For someone who does not like Merlot, I seem to thoroughly enjoy Right Bank Bordeaux.
