We get an early start. Long ride today, over 60 km. Not much elevation, we hug the coast for the most part. Šibenik was not really on our list of places to visit, but some research indicates it is a nice spot.
Can you see so much stunning coastline that it becomes a banality? This coast just delivers one continuous ocean ride. The roads are great. We drop onto the waterline whenever we can. If there is an incline, it affords stunning landscapes.
“Those who live by the sea can hardly form a single thought of which the sea would not be part.” – Hermann Broch
We started looking for a coffee stop around 20 km in. There is not much around, mostly houses, so we push on. At around 30 km we have put some elevation under us and we are delivered the incredible view of Primošten.
We drop in and find a coffee place on the water. We don’t ruch. The water is crystal clear and the rocks are covered in sea urchins. Apparently they are not considered a delicacy. It is hard to leave. The weather is perfect, not a cloud in the sky.
“In the marvellous month of May
when all the buds were bursting,
then in my heart did
love arise.”
– Christian Johann Heinrich Heine
The remainder of the trip was good riding. Gentle climbs and fun descents. We headed into Šebinik. It is beautiful, the old city winding laneways and ancient buildings. Our room is great. It looks out toward a long alley.
I feel like I am in a Roman Payne novel.
“You must give everything to make your life as beautiful as the dreams that dance in your imagination.” ― Roman Payne
We grab some food mid afternoon. It will be lunch and dinner. Some gelato to finish. Walk the streets and take in the city. It is not the high season yet so it is nice and quiet.
Back to our room. I need to find a new book. In two days we will be in Zadar. From there we head inland toward Zagreb. I will miss this coastline.
