“One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one’s work is terribly important.”
Bertrand Russell
Thursday
Done for the week.
There was quite a bit of excitement when we moved to a country with a four day work week.
You cannot complain about a three day weekend.
It all goes pear-shaped when cramming the standard 40-hour week into four days.
The 4.20 am alarm is disheartening, even if it is only Monday through Thursday.
“I like the posture, but not the yoga.
Roman Payne
I like the inebriated morning, but not the opium. I like the flower but not the garden, the moment but not the dream. Quiet, my love. Be still. I am sleeping.”
Spare me the jokes about teachers working from 9.00 to 3.30. There is a reason half of all graduates leave teaching in the first three years. It is a tough job.
Di is visiting on her return from Europe.
I wish I had the energy to have dinner and listen to her experience.
In bed by 7.00.
Friday
Sleep in and hit the gym.
Nothing planned and I am happy about this plan.
We take Di to Pasha Sarayi for lunch. An early Mother’s Day.
The food is delicious.
Shell takes an afternoon nap and I read some books.
“I guess there are never enough books.”
John Steinbeck
Saturday
“I was mad of course and still am, but harmless, I passed for harmless, that’s a good one.
Samuel Beckett
I am not myself.
Sunday
“The truth is that everyone is bored, and devotes himself to cultivating habits.”
Albert Camus
Pies easily account for the Eagles despite a raft of injuries.
We drive to Kalba in the morning.
A detour to Hatta for some strawberries.
At Kalba, we grab a coffee and some food in a deserted shopping centre.
All the shops are open and there is barely a customer to be seen.
We head home and all I want to do is sleep.
I finish No Country For Old Men. Brilliant book.
“People complain about the bad things that happen to em that they don’t deserve but they seldom mention the good. About what they done to deserve them things”
Cormac McCarthy
I have started The Road and will continue with Daniel Dennett, I’ve Been Thinking.
Work tomorrow.
Hardly excited. Entirely over it.
Thank you both for the beautiful Mother’s day weekend. I loved spending so much time with you – it was very special. ❤️
Always great to see you.
