“The gift are those ideas you think of as you drift to sleep. The giver is that one you think of when you first awake.”
Roman Payne
Sunday
We slept in until late, which was 7.45 am. Late compared to the usual.
Breakfast provided. A decent spread.
It is stage 4 of the Czechia Tour today.
I know nothing about cycling, but there is quite a bit of fanfare. My first impression was organisers were setting up the finish line. It was the starting line.
We stroll around the sleepy village. Europe still believes in a weekend and everything except cafés and restaurants are closed. It feels like a thing of the past after living in Australia and Dubai. All things are available, all the time.
The constant drive for convenience and profit at the expense of simply having nothing to do.
There is a perpetual feeling in some places, that they never rest. Here you have no choice but to pause and rest. Time slows when a place sleeps for two days.
“It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?”
Henry David Thoreau
We walk back to the apartment as the rain falls and watch the start of the race. We have a perfect view from the window.
I read for a few hours before we head out for some coffee and cake which is lunch.
We take our books and read for a few hours on a cool, cloudy day.
We spend the afternoon reading.
Our room is upgraded. As soon as Shell walks in she suggests a third night.
As apartments go, this is quite a place. 180-degree views of clearing skies, mountains, and the village. A private courtyard and bath.
We open a bottle of wine and sit in the cool breeze and read the afternoon away.
Downstairs for dinner and the restaurant is shut.
A short walk and there is a place open. Beers, goulash and pork ribs for dinner.
Home. Read.
Bed.
Tonight’s wine –
2022 Weingut Jäger Smaragd Steinriegl Grüner Veltliner (Wachau, Austria)
This was Shell’s pick from the Wachau trip. Sitting here this afternoon, I cannot disagree.
