“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”
Lao Tzu
Breakfast at Zërgë Coffeeshop before we head to the airport to pick up the car.

A change of plans and a change of direction. South to Grožnjan. There is no place like home.
We arrive at the airport, and a familiar place offers us an upgrade. The recent hotel upgrade is fresh in my memory, but I accept it cautiously.
My instincts are confirmed; instead of our usual Mini Countryman, a bright blue Mini Cooper S with a soft top. I briefly consider driving to Croatia with the top down and quickly remember I am not a 25 year old woman.

“Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”
Franz Kafka
Back to the office, and we have a brand new Mini Countryman.
It is a reasonable drive to Grožnjan. Uneventful.
As we hit the mountains of Istria, the windy roads are full of fruit stalls. Farmers are selling their excess.
Peaches, nectarines, apricots, cherries, and figs. We buy more than we can eat.

This is what fruit should taste like, a completely different food from what you get in shops.
Doctors and health professionals tell us to eat more fruit. Maybe we would if the fruit we could get our hands on did not taste like cardboard.
We check into our place and open a bottle of Tomaz Teran and the afternoon drifts away.

We head out to dinner and it feels like we have returned to friends.
Beers are handed out, smiles, laughs, and no one speaks English. We are brother and sisters reuniting.
Dinner at Mama Maria. A choice of steak with salad or steak with salad.
The view is wonderful. The company is stunning. Glöss, the giant schnauzer, lies at our feet.

On the way home, the gallery owner on our street corner is picking ripe plums off the tree that overhangs the doorway. She gives us a handful of ripe, tart, ridiculously sweet fruit.

Bed. Sleep.
