“I wonder why I don’t go to bed and go to sleep. But then it would be tomorrow, so I decide that no matter how tired, no matter how incoherent I am, I can skip on hour more of sleep and live.”
– Sylvia Plath
Awake at 6.00 am and running on about three hours of sleep.
The plan to surprise Niam came undone when he hacked into Barry’s laptop and tracked our location.
It didn’t matter; Niam’s love is like a puppy. Excited and enthusiastic. He has trouble directing it, but it is unconditional. Then he gets tired and wants you to leave.
This meeting has been on the horizon for almost three years, with the pool as the primary focus point. A swim, and we throw the tennis balls. After that, various attempts to drown me.

First, a buffet breakfast. I eat enough for everyone.
A lazy day before dinner at Osteria Gamberoni.
Like many places in Chow Kit, this place almost didnt survive COVID. I remember coming here, and we were the only guests. They had a deal where you could order a starter and get two free glasses of wine. We would order about six starters just for the wine.
I order the lamb ragu, and Shell orders the frutti del mare. Both are excellent. We wash it down with a bottle of house wine, which happens to be a Malvasia. I am yet to drink a Malvasia that didn’t taste great.
Home and bed.
I am reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck and The Plague by Albert Camus. The Plague is excellent. East of Eden is hard work. Steinbeck’s short stories, The Pearl, Cannery Row, and Of Mice and Men are so much better than his novels, Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden.

“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.”
– John Steinbeck
