“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”
Albert Camus
Thursday
We have spent some time in the car over this first week. Slovakia, Poland and Germany.
It is time for a few days in a place with nothing to do but do nothing.
I wake up hungry, which is normal. Breakfast at the apartment.
A homemade breakfast means we can eat out at lunch and Plauen looks to have some good places to eat.
We have set up in our new place. A beautiful old house that has been converted into apartments.
A drive into town for some groceries and lunch. There is a market in the town stadtzentrum.
Café Albert for lunch.
Everything sweet attracts bees. There are dozens. So many we are forced inside.
Home for some wine and a lazy afternoon.
There is satisfaction in having nothing else to say about a day you did nothing.
“The best thing about the bedroom was the bed. I liked to stay in bed for hours, even during the day with covers pulled up to my chin. It was good in there, nothing ever occurred in there, no people, nothing.”
Charles Bukowski
Tonight’s wine –
2022 Weingut am Stein Silvaner (Würzburg, Germany)
Bone dry with great acid. Green apple, musk sticks and sweet herbs. Minerality on the palate. Our first Silvaner. Excellent.
2021 Cecchi Chianti (Chianti, Italy)
We needed something for outside in the courtyard and I couldn’t find anything German.
They look like European wasps, the same as the ones who migrated to Tasmania roughly 60 years ago. They can keep stinging where as a honey bee only has one sting. They love meat and any kind of food. Enjoy Germany as Di and I did. I also have to thank Di for giving me the encouragement to travel and enjoy many places other than home. It must be in the genes!
I think you are right, they are wasps.
