“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.”
Charles Darwin
Thursday and I am finally feeling better.
I didn’t get to the gym until Wednesday morning.
We head home and have an early dinner and an early wine.
“If you desire healing,
Rumi
let yourself fall ill
let yourself fall ill.”
Friday
Our new MacBooks are arriving today.
I have been using the work MacBook. Mine died a few months ago. Shell’s finally packed it in last weekend.
It is an expensive outlay.
It is Apple or the road when it comes to technology with Shell.
I hit the gym and put in a decent workout.
I lay around doing nothing, which I am ok with.
Reading and setting up the new MacBooks.
The evening is the same as the day, more reading and we open a bottle of wine.
“Yet want is my way, and my way is my will,
Roman Payne
Thus I killed my love with a sleeping pill.”
Saturday
A thunderstorm has rolled in but there is not much rain so we do not get flooded.
Another day of nothing.
I am not motivated to do anything.
“But really there wasn’t much point, and I gave up the idea out of laziness.”
Albert Camus
I feel run down and exhausted. There seems to be no weekend long enough to recover.
Is this old age?
No wine tonight, just more reading.
“I am incapable of conceiving infinity, and yet I do not accept finity. I want this adventure that is the context of my life to go on without end.”
Simone de Beauvoir
Sunday
Paddling at Nikki Beach this morning.
It is nice to be back on the water after a few weeks off.
Every journey on the ocean the water is a different colour. It is overcast today, the water is almost black, an impenetrable charcoal grey.
The ocean is therapy, I feel better already.
There is some swell about. We paddle off the beach and then turn around to catch some runners.
A barge heads out and it pushes off some serious wash. We paddle over and try and hit its wake but the swell is choppy and washes it out.
I have had enough of this plastic city.
There are sounds and noises. Sounds are made by nature, noise is made by people.
I am immersed in noise every second of the day. There is no space for sound in this swamp of noise.
“When there is noise and crowds, there is trouble;
Dejan Stojanović
When everything is silent and perfect,
There is just perfection and nothing
To fill the air.”
I prepare the meals for next week and spend the afternoon reading and trying not to think about work tomorrow.
I am counting down the days to our break.
This weekend wine –
2019 Domaine Des Pasquiers Gigondas (Côtes du Rhône, France)
Easy drinking and fruit-driven. The alcohol is a bit much after the Italians and the Beaujolais recently. You expect more from a Gigondas, or maybe expectations are too high. Côtes du Rhône is a bit hit and miss even from the popular regions.
2019 Albert Bichot Château De Dracy Baron De Charette Bourgogne (Burgundy, France)
This wine was never going to surpass the length of its name. Easy drinking, light, and friendly. Not a bad Burgundy that will never outshine its colossal name.
