Wedding day wines.
I am scrolling through my old tasting notes and came across this picture. Our wedding day wine. It was meant to be opened after the ceremony and photos. We had it for breakfast instead. People often comment on how happy we are in the picture. It is true, we were truly happy that day. It is fair to say half a bottle of Champagne may have added to the smiles.
We were married on a dairy farm on Pokolbin Mountain. A stunning place. It was a low key affair, Shell is not a person for pomp and ceremony. The only guests were the celebrant, the photographer, and the owner of the farm, Sally, who were the witnesses.
The ceremony was held at 10.00am in the morning on a cool Spring morning. Up early as always, I do not recall what we had for breakfast. As we were getting ready Shell decided the Champagne would be best served before the event, as opposed to after.
It was a fantastic morning. The ceremony was finished in a matter of minutes. The photographer had scheduled the afternoon for us. About thirty minutes or so of posing for pictures, in true Shell fashion, she declared she was bored with posing, thanked the photographer, and sent her home. We changed into shorts and t-shirts, drove down to Keith Tulloch Winery, and ate a very long, boozy lunch at the Muse Restaraunt. We laughed all day and Shell looked radiant.
Our wedding was over in under an hour and it remains the best day of my life.
I have mentioned before, wine tastes better in a time, place, and among the company of someone you love. There will be notes on the wine, in my memory, it was perfect in every way.
