“He liked to get off by himself, a mile or so from camp, and listen to the country, not the men.”
Larry McMurtry
A strange night’s sleep. Maybe I have forgotten how to sleep sober.
Breakfast at Beňovský Bistro & Market and then for a much needed barber appointment.
Not a bad trim but a little free with the cut throat.
I finished Lonesome Dove. Quite an epic and the best of the books in the series.
McMurtry writes with a brevity that I enjoy. I have the last book in the series, The Streets of Laredo to go.
“It seemed to him harder, as he got older, to find a simple way of life.”

We require a light lunch. Shell has booked us a degustation at Vino & Tapas. An award winning Slovakian chef that doesn’t seem to be cooking Spanish despite the restaurant name.
Hovädzí a zeleninový guláš for Shell and rolovaná morka a zemiak for me.
We open a bottle of Chianti and read while we wait for dinner to come around.
The degustation was great. A self taught chef using local produce with innovation. Czech wines to match.
Smoked creamed cheese on spinach sponge.
Goats cheese in a beetroot gel with beetroot foam.
Gorgonzola soup with pear, walnuts and plums.
Trout sandwich in dill purée.
Amuse-bouche of parsley and prosecco sorbet.
Saddle of rabbit with hazel nut and cauliflower in a cauliflower spume.
Amuse-bouche of cherry tomato stuffed with raspberry.
Crème anglaise with basil ice cream and candied almonds.
Paired with local wines which I didn’t get the names of – rosé, Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkischand and a fortified.
Tonight’s wine –
2022 Casa Pecunia Chianti (Chianti, Italy)
Not bad for a supermarket wine under 5 euros.
