“Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why.”
Kurt Vonnegut
Another 10 hour sleep.
I wake up slowly, then lay and doze. This is the way.
Time has slowed. Everything lasts longer with nothing to do.
Another winery today, Fakin Wines.
First, breakfast. Eggs and truffles on sour dough.
We have a few hours to kill before we head to Fakin. Ir is cool and overcast. We just sit downstairs and read books.
“Be still. Stillness reveals the secrets of eternity”
Lao Tzu
Fakin does not take cards and I have no cash so we head to Matošević Wines.
The fire is on and the wines are excellent.

We pick up a bottle of their Alba Malvasia and their excellent red blend, the Gremalda Crna.
It takes us 45 minutes to get to Ročka Konoba.
A carafe of house white and a follow up carafe of house red to go with miješani roštilj and truffle pasta.

A slow drive home to find the wine bar shut. We head home and open a bottle of 2021 Tomaz Sesto Senso. A rich Malvasia that is aged in French, Mulberry, and Acacia barrels.
It is raining. Nothing to do but drink wine and read a book.

We finish the Malvasia in quick time. There is a truffle shop at the end of our lane. It sells incredibly good truffled chips. Shell has a sudden hankering for the king of chips and sends me out in the rain.
We take a walk and find ourselves back at Turba Wine Bar. It is still shut despite it being Friday evening.
Back to the villa and I am not sure about more wine.
We go to bed early and read.
I don’t know what time I fell asleep.
“I know the night is not the same as the day: that all things are different, that the things of the night cannot be explained in the day, because they do not then exist, and the night can be a dreadful time for lonely people once their loneliness has started.”
Ernest Hemingway
