“In the morning I got up and it was sunny and I was immensely glad to see the sunshine…”
Jack Kerouac
An early start. Coffee and to the airport.
Airport breakfast.
Through security and on the plane in no time.
Modlin Airport. In the middle of nowhere, and efficient.
We find our place and head somewhere for lunch.
Our usual place has a long line for seats. It is good, but not that good.
We end up at Mięzy Nam, which delivers a great lunch.

Back to our place, and we find out the walls are made of paper. It feels like the neighbours have joined us for a chat.
“Noise is the most impertinent of all forms of interruption. It is not only an interruption, but also a disruption of thought.”
Arthur Schopenhauer
We hang out for a few hours and wait for dinner to roll up.
I fall asleep. I am woken by Shell shouting an accusation of which I am not guilty.
“I took no pride in my solitude; but I was dependent on it. The darkness of the room was like sunlight to me. And I masturbated.”
Charles Bukowski
Dinner is at Mauzealna. A beautiful courtyard setting. It is warm, but not uncomfortable.
We start with beer.

Shell orders a celery soup, trout, and dumplings. I go with chanterelles and the pork cheeks.
Some whites, a Grüner Veltliner and a very good Solaris from Poland.
We finish with reds, a Dornfelder from Poland and a Blaufränkisch from Austria.
A beautiful meal in a stunning setting.
As we walk home, the rain starts to fall. There is no smell like petrichor on a hot day.
“I liked walking in the rain. It erases your steps and nobody knows where you’ve been.”
Simone de Beauvoir
Home to read as the rain falls outside.
Our last night in Europe, and I am not sure when we will be back.
